Nibinabekwe: A Race of Water Spirits from Anishiabe folklore. Described by todays Navajo People as being shaped as mermaids, with human torso features and finned fish tails that walk on water.

About the Photograph: The seasonal snowmelt flows through the Chinle Wash in North Eastern Arizona. A colorful mineral stain from cobalt & iron deposits depicts a moving “Spirit of Water” across the canyon entrance. Water itself being a living spirit to the Native American Peoples.
